'Winning the Game of Change’ is used by change consultants, leaders, OD professionals, strategists and project leaders as a first step to implementing anything new such as:

  • A vision or strategy.

  • A project, cultural change, system or technology.

  • A change in thinking or paradigm.

  • Planning to rebuild an organisation after a merger or takeover.

What it is

‘Winning the Game of Change’ is a tool for developing a comprehensive change strategy for an organization, a region, a division or a project.  It can be used to plan the implementation of a new strategy, change the culture of an organization, or ensure a project will be implemented successfully. Based on best practices of successful change management and strategy implementation, ‘Winning the Game of Change’ provides a step by step approach for developing a powerful change strategy. Groups work through 8 stages to develop their change strategy, which is recorded on a laminated chart. The stages are:

  • Choose your team.

  • Develop a game plan.

  • Develop a training plan.

  • Create positive experiences.

  • Check progress.

  • Remove barriers to success.

  • Create heroes.

  • Win and create memories of success.

Whilst playing the game of change, they can also incorporate rational, emotional and spiritual intelligence into their change strategy, by picking up the head, heart and soul cards and following their instructions at any point in the game.

By working through these cards in sequence, your team will develop a powerful strategy that includes:

  • The specific role that every role player will play in ensuring the change works.

  • A clear focus of the end goal of the change, and how this will affect the organization as a system.

  • The core changes that need to be made to ensure your vision, strategy, project, merger or change work.

  • How to ensure your change is worth doing.

  • How to communicate the change. What to communicate to whom.

  • What to communicate once off and what to communicate regularly.

  • How to get buy in from key stakeholders.

  • The leadership tools and tactics you can use to support your change. E.g. systems thinking, structural change, performance management systems, changing paradigms, cultural change, changing reward systems, reducing stress, skills training, competitions, symbolic leadership, CRM, innovation systems, and visions.

  • How to get people acquainted with the new way.

  • How to give people opportunities to learn and practice new skills.

  • Who should provide what coaching.

  • How to give people a chance to practice the new way.

  • How to create positive experiences for every stakeholder involved in the change.

  • Symbolic leadership and specific symbolic acts.

  • How to check progress with each stakeholder group.

  • How to empower each stakeholder group to resolve barriers to change.
